I read a lot of online news. A ton. RSS feeds, Twitter feeds, news blogs, Google Alerts showing me new stuff; it never ends. At our recent “Networking Social | Social Networking” Event on Tuesday night, I was so happy to hand out 2 $1,500 checks to two very worthy women’s scholarship organizations from some of the proceeds we made from our very successful “Tech Boot Camps”; Cape Cod 2009 and Boston/South Shore 2009. So, my typical day consists of many hours online either blogging, tweeting, Facebooking, LinkingIn, you name it. At the speed of light. Because I am impulsive that way. The other day on Twitter, I was following a friend who tweeted about a new contest service a web applications company made for a well known hotel chain. Because my day job involves running a web applications company that creates successful web apps based on the Twitter API, I was intrigued on how the service would work as well as supporting other developers. We at Geek Girl are very proud of volunteering our time last Friday for a worthwhile event. Suffolk University, the renown Boston school, also has a Cape Cod extension where they put on some pretty cool programs for the locals. This particular event was about New Media for Non-Profits and it was infiltrated by about 150 non-profits, not-for-profits and charities all around Cape Cod and the South Shore. Well, it was only a matter of time before the Queen of Daytime got her fingers on the keyboard to tweet to the world. I am one of the fortunate subsets that has the new Twitter Discovery Search on my web-based Twitter profile to test out, and I am elated that Twitter has done this on their own homepage! Do you have a PC and are currenty using a Windows OS (Operating System), most notably XP or Vista? Then YOU need to pay close attention to what experts are saying about the Conficker Virus which they think will disrupt computers tomorrow on April Fool’s day, if not before. Experts are most worried about the ‘C’ variant of Conficker worm, aka Downadup or Kido, which infects Windows machines (XP and Vista) and disables them to get security updates or patches from Microsoft and from other vendors.
