Meet the Educational Scholarship Partner for Boot Camp Cape Cod, ABWA Cape Cod

At each Boot Camp, we partner with a local women’s group in that region to not only assist us in running the Boot Camp, but because of their involvement, we try to donate a portion of the proceeds to their educational scholarship fund which helps women take classes, workshops, attend conferences and go to college. Last year at Boot Camp Cape Cod 2009, we were able to donate a $1,500 check to them, and this year we are hoping to break that record, and see if we can give some other organizations some help. Happy Birthday, Ada Lovelace!

Today is the birthday of Ada Lovelace, widely recognized as one of the first computer programmers. Her claim to fame was that she wrote programs for Charles Babbage’s Analytical Engine, along with the very first description of a computer and software. Why is this of major importance? She was born in 1815, surely a time when women were not even considered to be a major force in science and technology. And in so far as successful women programmers or even women in tech, there are no Ada Lovelaces around in 2009 either. Women in IT are a rarity in most….
