My iPhone Can Do That?

My iPhone really is amazing. I thank Holy Thor every day for the ability to be mobile without lugging around a laptop wherever I go.

And every day I am learning more things I can do on it. Like this little nugget.

Siri can tell me what planes are flying over my head. Really. I know this might not sound too awesome to some of you, but my office is in the flight path of San Diego’s Lindbergh Field which is the busiest commercial airport in the United States with only one runway, and the second-busiest single-use runway in the world next to London’s Gatwick. So a lot of planes fly over. And I love it. I used to use just my hearing and memory to determine which one is a Boeing 737 or that old freaking DC10 that I think FedEx still uses.

But now Siri has made it even better and here is how you can find out.

Ask Siri, “Siri what planes are flying overhead?”

BOOM. All you need to know.

Top 5 Reasons I Love QuickBooks On My IPad

  1. I use an RDC App to my cloud server so I have access to not only my QuickBooks but all my files.
  2. My cloud server Right Networks is MUCH more reliable than Intuit’s QuickBooks online server.
  3. The screen is big enough to see a full document.  Much better than squinting at my phone.
  4. I can pull up info on the fly for customers without needing a laptop bag full of equipment.
  5. Intuit said it wasn’t possible and I figured it out anyway!

Who sings that? Now you can always know with SHAZAM!

So I’m at a restaurant (or an airport, elevator, car, waiting room…you get the point) and a song comes on in the background, one of many to the ‘soundtrack’ of my life. I love the beat..the lyrics are great, but I have no idea who it is? Have I heard this artist before, is this a new and upcoming artist? Well no more guessing for me!

I can now just ask Shazam, a great free music discovery engine app available for Android, BlackBerry, BREW, iPhone, J2ME, Symbian and Windows Phone.

I personally use it on my Iphone and it takes but 30 seconds for it to tag, analyze and verify a song. Once it does you will see the title of the song, artist, and album info. Depending on the album, you can get even more in depth information such as discography, reviews, tour info, and lyrics. On the IPhone version it gives me a button so I can connect straight to iTunes and purchase the song or album right then and there.

While Shazam is free, it is limited to five tags a month. However there is a paid version, Shazam Encore, without the ads and unlimited tagging for $2.99 a year or $4.99 for a lifetime subscription. Whether you get the free or paid, this app is sooo worth it and you will never leave yourself guessing again as well as discovering great music!

Leave Your Rewards Cards at Home: Use Your iPhone!

Okay, tell me this has never happened to you. You go to the store and someone asks, “Do you have ______ Rewards Card?”. Your answer probably is: A.) Nope, I left it at home; B.) Nope, I left it on my other set of keys; C.) Nope. It’s in my other car. D.) Nope. My husband has it. And who wants a set of keys with a bazillion rewards cards dangling like a dead weight? It’s a wonder your steering wheel hasn’t fallen off your dashboard with all that weight.

Well, we have an app for that! Why not put all your rewards card numbers on your iPhone?

With CardStar, you can! A overwhelming favorite of Geek Girls!

Simply download the CardStar app from the iTunes app store onto your iPhone. Using CardStar is easy! Just click the plus sign on the top right of the app. Select merchant, by eiher choosing a category, or hitting all merchants for the complete list. For instance, if you want to put your Southwest Rapid Rewards on your iPhone, select Southwest, add your rewards number exactly as it is on your card, and then hit save. Voila! Save any merchant loyalty card, discount card, rewards card or airlines miles cards, all within seconds.

Next time you need all your rewards card numbers in one place, look to your iPhone and keep your bulky purse and huge keychain at home.

Just don’t forget your iPhone…!

iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and DropBox Users: Try out PlainText!

iPhone users, take a look at this new app, especially if you are a DropBox user as well. PlainText is so easy to use and being able to sync to DropBox is even better than your Notes default app!

For editing text on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch. PlainText is a simple text editor with an uncomplicated, paper-like user interface. Unlike the default Notes app, PlainText allows you to create and organize your documents in folders and sync everything with Dropbox.com.

It’s not for everyone, but if you are like me and write lots of notes you would like to organize and save so I can pick them up on DropBox later, this is a great way to share them!

App Junkies: How to Create App Folders on Your iPhone 4 and iOS 4

So, the new OS upgrade came to the iPhone 3GS this week and the new iPhone is being shipped now! Hooray! If you have already upgraded your OS to the new iOS 4, you might want to know some very cool things you can do with it, like create app folders to hold your apps for faster search and efficiency for all you app junkies like me.

Creating folders is easy-cheesy. Creating folders will store and organize the apps on your iPhone’s home screen. To create a folder, tap and hold any icon on the home screen until they all start wiggling. Then (this is the cool part) drag and drop any application on top of another to create a folder with those apps together. Ain’t it cool?

Now, it’s not something everyone will use, but if you have 9 pages of apps on your iPhone, sometimes making folders on the home page is a lot easier than swishing page to page.
